Default inline 6 to v8 swap

i have a 69 coupe i bought for $2000 when i was 16. It came with a inline 6 200ci. played with it for about a year and decided to swap for a v8. My old man told me that i would have to change suspesion, steering, and drivetrain. A guy i talk to said inline 6 weigh more and i could just swap them changing nothing. Personally i think thats crap and im going to make this a huge project. Anyone have any exsperience on this or input on this it would help me a lot. I also have that motor for sell if u need one also a 250ci that was rebuilt with tranny.

Correct me if I'm wrong - but didn't 1969 (and up) Mustangs come with the 250 ci inline six? I thought '68 was the last year for the 200 ci.

At any rate, you're right. The whole shootin' match has to be changed. The suspension, brakes, everything. Unless you're just a glutton for punishment, your best bet is to just buy a V8 car and leave the 6 banger as is. If you do decide to make the swap, don't expect to get your money back out of it.

thx guys for the input. To answer the question about the 200ci is I believe that is the original block I checked it and it said it was a 69 block. I did get a 250 and tried to put it in there but its too long would not fit. the fan would hit the radiator i believe. thx again guys.

You're absolutely correct.
I found this info in an online Mustang Monthly article:

"The 1969 Mustang was redesigned from bumper to bumper, with twin-set headlamps and a mouthy grille. With that came a greater lineup of engines. Base power was, again, the 200ci six, with a taller deck 250ci six and 155 hp, added to the option list."

So, apparently the your 200 c.i. could indeed be the original engine; but that 250 you have should fit as well.

i just finished converting my inline six to a 302 and yes the v8 did weigh less. but you still need to change all the suspension not because of the weight but because of the power and torque(spelling?)
if you have any questions about the swap i just completed mine...suspension, steering, brakes, tranny, and rear.
