my avatar=broken link, i either pick one of the premade ones or upload my own and look at the preview, it always links to the same non-existent gif....

Don't know why the premade one's won't work or the one's you upload. It's something wrong on your end, not the site's. Come back with some specific ?'s and maybe we can help you out more.
