Vapor Lock

Vapor Lock
I know this is the wrong term (vapor lock) but, I can't discribe it any other way. Who out there has had this problem, after a steady run of 40 or so miles at 75mph, take an off ramp and then attempt to pull into traffic only to have the car sputter as if its out of gas. Only last for 1/2 second but it's damn near kill me 4 or 5 time. Also, i've had cases where, sitting at a light behind someone, light turns green, i let the clutch out a "just barely" touch the gas and the car takes off like a bat outta hell, again only for a split second and then returns to normal??? gonna kill me one day! any ideas? only mod to the car is a flowmaster(american thunder) muffler.

RE: Vapor Lock
Vapor lock (and that is the proper term) is very rare and Ive only heard of it happening to carbuerated cars. I suppose it can happen to EFI but its definitly much more rare because of the high pressure that the EFI system is under, and that the fuel pump is in the tank.
If I were you Id get a fuel pressure guage so you can monitor the fuel system and see if you get a drop in pressure. Basically, if youre experiencing vapor lock, the liquid fuel is literally being vaporized (in the line) causing drops in fuel pressure and overall a lack of fuel to the cylinders.
-P.
PS: What year/model do you have?

RE: Vapor Lock
I've got a 2006 4.0 Pony Package. I also thought it unlikely that vapor lock was/is the case, can't believe things would be getting that hot on this weak pony. My uneducated guess was something along the lines of the computer input to the EFI? Is this worth a visit to the dealer? Everytime I take the car in, they are never able to reproduce the current problem, no matter what the problem is. I figure they'll just claim it's non exsistant or replace the fuel filter. Can I install a fuel pressure gauge myself?
