Default 2015 Mustang C Clip?

Hello, I was having some trouble finding any information on this since it seems it doesn’t exist.

I was at the dealer yesterday morning looking at a 2015 V6 Mustang, car was clean low mileage and I was stoked. I took it for a test drive and realized whenever i turned the wheel more than about 30° there was a clunking almost as if the wheels were trying to straighten themselves out and it was really uncomfortable.

I talked to the guys at the shop and they claimed the car had never even gone on the lift yet when the guy at the dealership told me it went up over a week ago. This was a red flag for me.

The guy at the dealership then said “The rear axle slides a little bit because the C-Clip is broken. We ordered a new one from ford, it’s very rare these go, but once it gets here it’ll go right on the car and I’ll give you a call”.

I immediately started researching the feeling I got and it was almost as if no one had talked about it, but I seen that 84-14 Mustangs had C Clip eliminators but not the 6 Gen which made me think they already are eliminated.

So what exactly could be causing the clunking and was this salesman talking out his *** trying to sell me a trash car with some steering problems.

I appreciate any help!

Sounds like a lot of BS being handed to you. If they never put it on the lift to inspect it, how did they determine that the C clip was broken? And if the C clip is broken, where did the parts go and what damage did it do to the differential, and what keeps the axle from sliding out completely while driving? If that were really the case, they wouldn't let the car out on the road.

What you described sounds like something that happened to my 2013. The bolt holding the steering column together backed out at the joint - look down the driver side of the engine bay and have someone move the steering wheel. If it is loose it will be obvious then.

When I go back to look at the car I’ll take a look. Someone is lying and I really do hope it’s the guy at the shop just being clueless, but I appreciate the idea and i’ll make sure to take your advice. If that is the case, is it an expensive fix? Am I gonna be making a mistake? The car is honestly a pretty good deal and that’s why I’m so skeptical to buy it with this issue because it could be much larger than I know and that’s why it’s so cheap

If it is the bolt then it is a cheap fix. Simply tighten it up!

On my car it happened after an engine swap. The shop simply didn't tighten it up when they put everything back together. I noticed that the steering was acting strange and took it back in - luckily before it came apart on me on a long commute to the office.
