So I got a Quote for gears.....
So i got a quote for my gears, goin with the 3.73's. Now the guy said for everything it would be $450 out the door. This seems a lil high for me. Would I be better off buying the gears and an install kit through summit and then taking them to a shop to do them, or is this quote good enough? I normally do all the work myself, but rear gears are not something i want to be messing with.
I got a buddy at a local dealership that will do mine for 150 if i buy the gears from him.
Met him at a car show he was in a 32 ford with a crate motor in it.Maybe check around at a few shows or ask friends who are into performance cars and building them up.450 seems high to me as well.

I'd pay that much for a rear end rebuild like Vfast is talking along with the gears. Shop around a bit and call some Speedshops, but otherwise 450 is ok, so long as he's doing more than just putting in the gears.
hell, turboconnections wanted $750.00! now that is high, anyways find a friend that has put gears in.have him help you so you'll know what to do next time. its a win,win situation pay him a few bucks and you learned something.
You figure the gears are $160 average price, so your talking about $290 to install. I think it is a little too much. On gears, I think $150-$200 is common for install.
for exp,, 180.00 to set up.......80.00 brgs........gears 200.00........plus axle brgs ,seals 30.00.....limtined slip. lube 3 qts of gear lube...30.00...what does that come out too..more than 450.00,,,thats here in town..i do myself,,,,,
dude..this guy can't ....alot of places will tell you a high number because they don't want your work and they think hell if he's willing to pay that much then they'll do it.. I have done this on home repair.....some times the best place is word of mouth..check with some friends who have had them done...
If you are being offered all thats been mentioned above and not just straight putting gears in then you JUMP ON THAT RIGHT AWAY!Thats a hell of a deal.I meant for only gear install 450 wasa bit steep. But if all the bells and whistles are being thrown in go for it.
Post a pic of the smile that will be plastered across your face after you break them gears in and get on it for the first time.
