Default Check Engine Light on 2006 GT

My check engine light came on at 4000 miles. The engine has not miss fired and runs fine. Is this a common problem with the new 4.6 liter V8?

Maybe I care because it's my car. Things like this don't just happen for no reason. Asking for help, not a sarcastic comment.

It's not common. Take it to the dealer. If you try to tinker with it, you may void the warranty

+1 It could be just a fluke. If it's running fine, it most likely won't be a big deal. The worst part is having to go back to the dealer. At least it will be free.

Sorry if you took it the wrong way. If the car is running ok, im sure its not a major problem. I know you care cause its your car but you shouldn`t need to worry. Whatever it is, the dealer WILL fix it. Relax dude.

Check Engine lights can indicate an emission problem. The engine may run fine. But a sensor or other emission device may have malfunctioned. Take it to the dealer. It is best to let them do it. Then whatever it is will be documented.

It could be caused by something simple. Did you just fill up tthe car? Is the gas cap screwed on tight? This is one thing that will cause the light to come on. If you really want to know what it is before you take it to the dealer, take it to Auto Zone, or other auto parts store and have them scan it. They will do it for free, and tell you what is wrong.
