Stalling problem
239.1
I have a 1967 Fastback with an A-Code 289, .464 lift cam, Edelbrock 600cfm carb, Edelbrock Torker II intake, 4-speed Toploader. I have a problem with it wanting to stall out on me in first gear. I really have to feather the clutch out and keep the RPM's high to prevent it. I will soon be replacing the Edelbrock carb with a Holley and possibly replacing the single-plane intake with a Weiand Stealth, which I hope will help the problem. I have been told by a couple of fairly reliable sources that the old Edelbrock carb is probably causing my problem. Does anyone have any other ideas? Has anyone experienced this? Could it possibly be that I have too much cam? Also, it has something in the neighborhood of a 3:00.1 rear-end, maybe even 2.75:1. Could be contributing to the problem? Thanks!

the lift seems fine..what is your timing set at maybe but it a 10 or 12 degrees....try riching up the idle a lil and maybe up'in the idle.if you do get a holley a demon carb would be the way some thing around a 625-650 cfm..going to a 3.50 gear would help preformance as well..also with the small cam a dual plane intake will give you better throttle response and good power to 1500-5500 or so..also readjust the clutch
Thanks, vfast. Do you have any feelings about the Weiand Stealth intake for the 289? From what I'm reading, it seems to be a "best of both worlds" as far as single plane vs. dual plane intakes go.
I'm not a real fan of wieland intake...but that just my preference is all....a air gap is a nice intake.....you could even put a divider in the intake you have.. here is a nice intake from professional products I would cut about 1-2 inches off the plemun
