05 crashes?
Does anyone have info on high-speed crashes for the new mustangs? I've heard stories of the engines on mustangs coming through the firewall easier than most other sports cars and crushing the people in the front seats. Is this true for the new mustangs as they do have 5 star frontal and 4 star side crash ratings?
According to NHTSA the '05 stang gets a 5 star rating for front & rear hits, and a 4 star rating for side hits. At least for the coupe.

I seem to remember something about the motor mounts being designed to drop the engine if involved in a bad accident. Meaning it separates from the car and reduces the kinetic energy.
Anyways, that "five star frontal crash rating" isn't intended for high speed crashes lol. The human body can only withstand about 300 m/s(squared) of acceleration. Meaning if you hit a brick wall going 60 mph, your car is going to need to crumple 1 1/5 meters in order for you to survive. Going 90 mph, that turns into 2 2/3 meters. That's over a 100% increase in distance for a 50% increase in speed. I can't really see your car crumpling over 8 and a half feet and you surviving either, though.
The 5 star rating is for a full on frontal crash at 35 mph, and means there is a 10% chance or less of serious injury requiring immediate hospitalization. Offset crash ratings (which i couldn't find for any mustangs) are more demanding, as they stress only part of the chassis, and passenger compartment intrusion is more likely.
So your definitive answer is... maybe?

i had a friend get killed in a highspeed crash in a mustang they sai he wad doing bout 95 in his 98 cobra svt when he hit a tree the engine was completly ripped out of the car but but there really wasen't anything left of the car. so yes i would say it can definatly go through the firewall
Well, when I go shopping for cars.. one of the LAST considerations I would think about would be "wow nice [insert car here]. I wonder if I'd survive a highspeed crash in it?" [sm=crossbonesgif.gif]
