Question on Gears!!!
I just got 4.10 gears, not intalled...are they really worth it? My top speed wont be as high, less MPG,...ect
also, i have a 99 GT, what are the gears i have now? is the rear 8.8?
also, if i change them, will i lose overdrive?

RE: Question on Gears!!!
some people will probably jump on your case for making another gear thread, i say the hell with it
on the are they worth it topic, 9.5/10 people love their 4.10 gears, some wish they had 4.30's
im sure if youve got a basically stock GT right now, you'll enjoy the gears quite a bit
you'll notice alot more 'pull' throughout the RPM range, especially off the line in 1st, and in the mid to high range in 2nd-4th
i rarely play around with 5th so i dont really notice a difference
the top speed won't be affected by your 4.10 swap either, you lose like 3-4 mph i believe on each gear (thats an estimate) so your top speed will still be (if its ungoverned) in the 145-150 ish range
and as long as you can keep your feet of the floor, you shouldnt lose more than 1-2 mpg in the city, and if you are content driving 70-75 mph on the highway, you won't lose much there either
since youve got a 99GT , your rear end is currently a 8.8" with 3.27 gears stock (im 99% sure its that ratio on an auto, and 100% sure for a 5sp) which reminds me, which do you have?
and since you mentioned overdrive, im gonna assume auto, no you wont lose your overdrive
some questions for you though.. do you have any method to recalibrate your speedometer? and have you bought the rear end master bearing kit yet? finially, what are you payingn for install?

Congrats on getting the 4.10's. Now put them in! I lost MAYBE 1-2 MPG. Put them in and have fun! The first week of havin them, I had permagrin every time I drove my Stang. They will really wake things up.
