Default air conditioning issues and questions

I noticed my 97 with V6 wasn't cooling well so I poked my head under the hood. The clutch is cycling on and off, mostly off. I checked the pressure at the low pressure side and don't get much of an indication.

Do these cars have issues with a/c component failures? Any particular areas to check out? Car is a 97 3.8 L, 5 speed with only 53000 miles on it. I plan on getting some dye from the Advance Auot but wanted to see if I can eliminate any areas as likely suspects for leakage?

Any ideas and help is appreciated. I have worked on a/c units in other cars but not Fords.

Most likely it is low on freon. Have it charged and see where that gets you. The connections are known for leaks. The dye will help track them down.

The smart a$$ answer would be "no kidding? Low on Freon? "

I know it is low on freon and needs to be recharged. I also know that the leak detector will help me pinpoint the leak. My question was whether or not those in the know knew of areas that are prone to leakage these model years.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
