Thats not acid thats corrosion on the terminals. To get this off get a wire brush and some battery terminal cleaner/protector. CRC makes it and I believe there version is in a red can, but most companies make it. Easy to find at an autoparts store. Get these things cleaned up then get some of those felt terminal protector pads... there is a green and a red and they look like felt donuts that you slip over the terminal between the connector and for somereason they work like magic. Problem solved. Once you get them clean pull the wires off every few months and hit them with the spray.

I guess you are talking about the white
fuzz that apperars at the terminals.
Use water with baking soda to flood
the terminals to neutralize the acid.
Go to Napa and get a set of impregnated
felt battery washers and a $4 terminal
brush. Clean the terminal with the brush
and the cable ends and install the felt
washers, then the cables. Keep them
real tight.
It should last for years.
