Tremmec Woes..!!
ug.. I bought my car a few months ago with a tremmec 3550 tranny with 1,000mi on it... The tranny is nice and smooth and for the most part nice when racing...But sum of the time it Grinds going into 2nd at high rpm...usually not power shifting...and 1-2nd when not power shifting take the longest time...Its really annoying...Could it be low fluid..how do i check/add fluid and what type...If its the snychros what do most shops charge to put in a new 1-2nd snycro.. i love the way the gearbox shifts in all other gear..its just a gripe not having the tranny perfect...thanx for any info...

RE: Tremmec Woes..!!
Mine did that too and now I have no transmission. Best get it fixed or your going to be in a world of hurt! Mine is a stock T5 from my 95' V6 Stang. Im getting it rebuilt with new double moly steel gears. 3.35 - 1.98 - 1.34 - 1.00 - 0.63 Those are the ratio's that I am going to try to use. I believe they should work. The first two are pretty low and the remaining 3 are stanard. Standard first two are 2.95 1st and 1.94 2nd So i expect to see a little extra speed from the car. Couple with 3.73 Richmond and Auburn Pro to my 8.8" it will be pretty fast for a V6 But im selling her so someone will enjoy her somewhere and I will enjoy a new Cobra 95 - 96-98. 95 Cobra was only 220hp and and 96-98 was 305hp. Dont suggest a 99-04 Cause I hate the body design, and I really dont like the 94' though is practicly the same as the 95.
ANYWAYS! Get the tranny checked out as soon as you can and have it gone through because its going to fail, especially if you race it. I blew mine trying to put a beater in its place. Well the beater thought he won, later I went back with a buddy and talked to him, set him streight, he told me he was gassin it the entire time I was drifting in nuetral next to him..... slow slow, I cant believe I wasted my tranny on a worthless car like that. It was a Gremlin I think, or colt, something small and ugly like that. Guy said he heard a helacios BANG... ******* didnt even stop when I pulled off the road, just drove by revving his engine and honking his horn. Oh well he has a **** car.
My car has about 225-235ft-lbs torque which went past my stock tranny specs.... Bound to happen. New specs are at 325ft-lbs torque so Im happy with that. In all its going to cost me just under $400. I hope yours costs just as little.
Good Luck and keep us posted!

Hey NEOTOKYO, where are you getting those gears for your T5. I am losing the synchro on my 2nd to 3rd and am planning on rebuilding mine. I haven't been able to find any heavy duty/after market gears for a T5 yet.
Thanks

GreenMachine5.0 get a 2004 Ford Racing Performance Parts Magazine. They are in there, you just have to mix and match your own gears, but as along as its all T5 it will work just fine. Call up your local Ford parts dealership and they will work with you to find the gears that you want. Each gear is about $124 dollars according to ford that is the recomended listing price. The double moly steel cluster gear is almost $300. In the magazine the parts are on 114-118. I couldnt find 1st in a double moly gear, just 2nd and 3rd but thats good enough.
With those ratio's you can have awesome take off with pulling midrange and still have higher speed and economy with the 0.63. And of course it depends on your diff gears too in your 8.8" pumpkin.
