New Cobra Recall
AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 2003 and 2004 model year Mustang Cobra vehicles built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant from March 19, 2002 through April 1, 2004. Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS. In addition, for a list of vehicles assigned to your dealership, visit https://web.fsavinlists.dealerconnection.com.
REASON FOR THIS SAFETY RECALL
In some of the affected vehicles, the unique rear surface profile of the Mustang Cobra accelerator pedal may catch in the carpet cutout behind the accelerator pedal. This condition could interfere with the pedal's ability to return to an idle position. As a result, some customers may experience unexpected, continued throttle application and/or increased stopping distances. Either of these conditions could lead to an accident.
SERVICE ACTION
Dealers are to install a shield behind the accelerator pedal to eliminate a potential interference condition between the accelerator pedal and carpet. After installation of the shield, dealers are to verify that the accelerator pedal travel allows wide open throttle with the shield in place. This service must be performed on affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner.
OWNER NOTIFICATION MAILING SCHEDULE
Owners of affected vehicles will be notified by mail the week of April 24, 2006. Dealers should repair any affected vehicles that arrive at their dealerships, whether or not the customer has received a letter.
