does any body know where the distributor rotor should be facing at tdc ,on a 74 351w. i'm trying to start it for the first time, i'm getting some fire from the headers but only on occasion , i'm assuming this is a timing problem?

 

There is no set spot for it to face.
you need to bring the #1 cylinder to TDC on the compresion stroke and check to see that the rotor is pointing at the #1 terminal. if not then rotate the dizy so the rotor does then try again. once it starts you will need to time is with a light.

 

thats what i thought.i'm also having some battery issues it may just not be cranking enough to fire
