96 v-6 ragtop questions
my neighbor has a 96 v-6 with a cracked head. she let it get hot and kept driving it.
car has 4/w disc brakes and automatic tranny.
will that transmission bolt to a 289, and is it "electronic" or completely manually controlled?
i am looking for an aod to install in my son's 67 coupe.
what about the brakes ? are they good for anything ?
what rear end will the car have ? 8.8 ??
thx from an old school hot rod guywhose not very in touch with these later model cars.

Dont get that transmission, it wont bolt right up as far as I know, you could always have adapter plates made but thats alot of trouble. Those transmissions arent strong anyways, not for a 289. They are only meant to hold about 180ftlbs, the V6 manual is even lower at 165 (mine was anyways.)
The rear end is indeed a 7.5" rear and the disk brakes arent worth the trouble. Your best bet is a Mustang II IFS conversion (About $2000, but comes race ready, or you can go cheap for half) and get a 8.8" out of a Lincoln or Crown Victoria or Mustang GT or Murader or just about any RWD big boat.
Now for that 289 I would highly recomend a C4 that has been mildly build, you dont need something crazy, just enough to handle somewhere around 450ftqlbs. If you dont care too much about trans weight then go with a Baby C6, but I dont think that 289 Will put enough torque out to warrent the extra weight. Now if it were a BOSS302 or Cleveland I would strongly suggest a Baby C6.
Well good luck with it all.
