Default PCM and DTC's

1998 SVT Cobra Convertible 4.6L Modular...

Having trouble with my PATS I think - The car will not start all of the sudden. All of the lights and accessories work as normal, but the starter is not turning. It's almost like the clutch switch is malfunctioning, the pcm is fried, PATS is screwed up, or the key chip is bad?
Can I get the codes w/o a scanner? I know some other vehicles you can turn the ignition on/off and the MIL will flash the codes.
Thanks- oh, and this is my second post! (not having much luck with the search yet)

If the PATS is acting up, it'll crank but won't start. If your starter isn't cranking it, you could have a bad starter. That's where you should start.

You'll need a scanner to get codes out... the 99+ stangs have a digital odometer and can get codes out through that, but you don't so you're out of luck... you can get codes scanned for free at most AutoZones.

Thanks ShadowDrake!
If it was the starter, would I still hear at least a click or something?

I'll search for a good scanner. I hate to get it towed to the dealer and they charge me 100's of dollars for something I can do.

Weather finnally broke here in N. Idaho and I can't drive it with the top dropped![:@]

Ok, just went into the garage and fired it up - started right up this morning like nothing was ever wrong. I'm relieved, but concerned about where I'll be for the next foul up.

I may drive up to AutoZone now

Another update:
Just got back - no codes and the engine is starting 5 times faster than ever!

Oh well, I'll keep my cell on me
