Is it worth it to port and polish stock manifolds and heads or just bite the bullet and drop some sirious cash?
Drop the cash, cause any serious engine builder who takes the heads to the max is gonna charge a bundle. I wouldnt do anyones heads for less than 900-1200. Now get a half *** backyard guy who tells you 500 bucks and the chance of getting junk back is likely. The vast majority don't understand how heads really work and what it takes to make them work. Bigger is better is the theory that will get you in trouble real quick. Anyone who doesnt use a flowbench to gauge progress on their head work and to equalize each intake and exhaust port with each other is just wasting time. And for anyone to do that kind of work on your stock heads will charge plenty. Then on top of it, you have heads that are equal to a raw, as casted aftermarket head. Save your money
Ive looked at arf and trickflow,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,your opinions??? Also I dont wanna change pistons or rods if possible. Just cam, heads, and manifolds.
Preferably AFR IMO, TFS has corrected their ways but we blew alot of motors up in the mid 90's when they came out with the Twisted Wedge head. The screwed up valve angles on a fairly large production run which cause alot of dropped valves in a lot of cars. Obviously that was quite some time ago but when you lose 10-20k it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. AFR for sure
AFR and the TW's are both great heads....you can probably run a little more lift w/ the TW's, but some people I know swear that the AFR's really do bolt on 60+rwhp.......
Also, it will depend on your h/c/i combo....your stock internals should be okay depending on what cam you choose. The AFR's w/ 1.6's and a TFS stage 1 or similar should be okay, but you should always clay it to be safe.
