Default RE: gears in automatics 3.73/4.10?

I'd go with the 3.73's, they won't hurt the top end as much nor hit the gas mileage like the 4.10's will do. if you really are a top speed nut, keep the 2.73's as they will let you get the highest mph, but it takes forever to get there!

If it's a 4.6L Automatic I say 4.10s.....5.0 maybe 3.73s but I have a 5.0 and am doing 4.10s with a 5 speed.

it's basic math. assuming the only thing you change is the rear gear and you go to the same top rpm on the motor, you do this math:
old gear ratio/new gear ratio x current top speed = new top speed with new ratio gear
plug in your current numbers and solve for the new top speed.
let's say your current top speed is 135 with 2.73 gears, then the new top speed with 3.73's would be 98.8 mph.

For an automatic, 4.10's are the way to go.

Ive got a 95 5.0 w/ 4:10's they are awsome outta the hole!!!! But my top speed isn't what it used to be... I lost a lot of top end speed for that lower range.... 4:10's are more for drag than street... Id say go with 3.73's!!!!! Best for street driven AOD's....

And with 4:10's your going to hate the gas mileage BELIEVE me!!!!

I have 3.73's but when i move up to a spool ill be adding 4.10's and thats with a 3 speed.Im going for 1/4 mile i could care less about top end since it rarely will see that being on the street anyways.

If you have intentions of running on the street 4.10's.I have 3.73's now and im telling you even with a 3 speed its not enough.

A kid i know and help a lot with his car has 4.56's and an AOD and im telling you its everything but breaking your damn neck when he gets on it!

I say 4.10's trust me 3.73's wont be enough.

Actually the mileage isn't bad. I've read and talked to numerous people. As long as stay within around 5 miles of 60 you're easily fine. 3.73s in an auto isn't that great. 4.10s man to be honest. Hooking up will be a problem but just don't push it and your tires will be fine.
