Default Alarm Remote

I just got a new alarm remote for my 2000 Mustang but can't figure out how to program it, the directions said to turn the ignition from off to run 8 times in 10 seconds with the last time ending in run and this would reset the system and I would be able to program the new remotes, but this is not working. Has anyone had any experience with this or know what I am doing wrong???

Ones I've done in the past you had to be holding one of the buttons at the same time. Not sure about your set up though.
