Wierd issues: battery light comes on at 2500 RPM
Wierd issue: 99 Mustang, V6, 77K miles
I was driving home from a vacation with the wife, highway driving, about 70 ish, and I notice the battery light is on. I drive that way for 2 hours till I get home.
Upon getting home, I drive a few other places that day, light stays on the whole timel, however, no problems starting/radio & CD player work, no electrical problems at all.
I go to Lowes, and upon going back to my car, I notice my trunk wasn't latched all the way. I open it and close it all the way. To my surprise, when I start the car, battery light is off.
I go on for the next few days, everythings fine, ect.
I go down to AC for some poker lovin'. I notice that at high speeds, the light will start to flicker to life, and go on, then go off as I slow down. I do some testing, and realize that it starts to come on when the engine hits 2500-ish RPM. Above that RPM, it's on, below that RPM, it's off.
This whole time, I have no electrical problems or starting problems with my car.
What could this be? Any idea's?

Sounds like it could be the regulator getting ready to *** out so to speak.
I would yank it and take the whole thing down to a shop and have it tested.Have them load it down and run her up to the 2500 rpm and find out.
Electrical system qwerks are a bitch to deal with and diagnose sometimes.

Yeah the tensioner may be at fault but i doubt it.I had this same problem on my S.H.O last weekend and it ended up being the regulator but because its my daliy driver i went ahead and rebuilt it.
I can almost guarantee its the regulator.

My 99 F150 with a 4.6 did the same thing. Replace the regulator. I think it's about 60-70 bucks. And I had to go thru Ford to get it. NAPA said they didn't even list a regulator for mine, but that was a year or 2 ago. Maybe now they do?

Would you be willing to bet what it is thats really his problem?
I can almost guarantee its the regulator and or brushes.
And yeah if you can afford it upgrade the whole thing.I have a kit in the garage that will turn my 100 amp into a 200 amp that ill be putting together some time soon.
But isnt the 99 v6 a 130 amp?If so that will be fine for most anything you put in the car.
