fuel or electrical?

fuel or electrical?
i have an 88 gt. yesterday i ran out of gas. blew out an injector ring. the car died. started it and went a mile or so. died again. replaced the cap and rotor, coil and fuel filter. looks like the injector is still leaking and doesnt appear to be getting any spark out of the coil. is there a bypass or shut off switch that engages if an injector is leaking? the fuel pump is working and i reset the inertia switch. all i did was run out of gas.

RE: fuel or electrical?
If you reset the inertia switch. You should get fuel. If you have someone turn it over and push down on the shrader valve and you get fuel comming out. Then its not fuel. You said, you dont have any spark. How do you know that? And if you blew an injecter ring, did you get it replaced or are you just running it on a blown o-ring? Cause thats not good. The 5.0 blows o-rings all the time. Make sure you replace all of them. Because if 1 goes they all do eventually. replace the upper intake gasket too. Make sure you put a piece of tape over the intake though.

my 88 has over 108,000 miles on it and I've never blown out an injector O-ring and this is the first one I've ever heard of blowing out, so I don't think it is that normal of an occurence, at least not in my experience.

yeah i got fuel. i did replace all the o rings and the lil plastic caps as well... i used a cheap light meter and tested all the electrical connections. when i turn it over and test the coil im not getting any reading coming out of the coil. i have power goin in. im replacing the ignition module today. i sprayed starting fluid in the intake and got nothing. plus i can drench a rag with gas from the valve so i dont think its a fuel problem. for some reason im not getting any spark to the cylinders, any ideas?

LMAO, I just went through this problem a few days ago. It turned out to be the pickup coil in the distributor. When the car died, did it stumble or just die? The pickup coil was about $20. If you have never taken apart a distributor, just buy a new OEM replacement from autozone. I think they are about $60. My car would crank and run fine for a short period of time, then die. It would not restart until it had cooled down for 4 or 5 hours. It could have easily been mistaken as running out of gas. I hope this helps, good luck.

it could also be the plug in module on the side of the distributor too. mine went bad many years ago and the car just stopped running dead in its tracks. think it sells for about $100 not real sure.
