Default T/B Ineffective w/o Porting?

I don't remember what thread this was said in or by whom, but someone said that larger throttle bodies would yield no benefits without a ported intake. Could anyone elaborate on this? Is this true, or only to an extent?

It's true..on a 6er anyway. Not sure about the 8's. If you put on a bigger t/b w/o porting the intake too, you're creating a "step" effect. Which creates turbulance, which can rob you of power.

Thanks again

Ya know, it's getting to the point where I might as well just start an "Ask 03YellowPony" thread. lol

think of it this way:

if you have a steel tube that is 3" in diameter, just putting a fitting on it thats 1" larger in diameter (4" total)wont do anything because the rest of the pipe is still only 3".

but say you get a pipe that is 4" (same concept as porting in this case), but yet you still only have the original 3" fitting (stock throttle body), then youre restricting air flow because of a smaller fitting on a larger tube.

thats when buying a larger TB comes in play. usually you buy a larger TB when the intake is big enough to accomodate the larger TB, and when the stock one is causing restrictions.
