Default Quad stock setup

Alright, I've got an 86 Gt and I know they didn't have the quad shocks. Only thing is that on my axle, on the top, on either side are these brackets that look about the size of shock ones. Then on the frame just behind the wheels are two threaded holes where something either was or could be. My question is: can these be used to put in a pair of shocks if I got the other brackets? Could this also mean I've got a later year rear end? Does anyone else with an 86 or older have these empty brackets?

From what I've read, while the quad shock set-up does help, if you add any kind of traction aid, like traction bars, they recommend that the horizontal shocks be removed because it slows down the motion. With that in mind, I would say don't worry about getting the quad shock set-up, and just get the traction bars instead. I understand these work better.

How do traction bars work on a car with shocks? I know how they work with leaf springs. They would have to be something completely different. I know my car has an upper and lower control arm on either side along with the shock and spring. Don't know what a traction bar would do or where it would go. Oh, I already have aftermarket upper and lower rear control arms.

Lakewood makes a set for the 5.0 Mustangs. Summit has them for $184. The part # is LAK-20161. It's looks to be a pretty impressive unit.
Now I have another item I want to get--AHHHHH!!!!!! Does it ever stop?!?!?! [sm=smiley29.gif]

well the 86 did have stock quad shocks on them and really they would be good for road racing. their are different kinds of traction bars, most are set up to kind of push on the frame and pull the rear end down, some have a strap setup that bolts around the axle housing. those are good, but should be welded instead of bolted. i would recommend anything from southside machine bars when it comes to that, the traction bars are noisy but good
