Aren't there some "rules" about driving during the break-in period?

This is going to get a lot of different opinions and procedures but i suggest keeping your foot out of it until you rack up a few thousand miles. And dont forget to periodically change the oil.

After a few thousand miles of nice everyday nothing crazy driving and oil changes regularly switch to synthetic and let her rip.

But take it easy for a while you need to give them rings a chance to take a good seal.

i think it is best to put about 250 easy miles on it oil change then go alittle harder for another 250 oil change then go for 500-700 miles like you would drive it every day then oil changafter that it shuold be redy for anything. the first 500 miles in 250 oil change intervals should be start the car up get to operating temp and cruise for at atleast 45mins b4 turning the car off. may be over kill but it your car and if you want it to last and plan to drivr it hard this is the best way i believe.

On that cruise you want varying engine speeds.

You dont want to run the motor one set rpm go throughtout the entire range.

You can always call the place you bought it as well and see what they recommend.

the newer engines don't really need a lot of pampering to break them in anymore and seal the rings. the new machining processes and metallurgy has eliminated the need for a special break-in period. I do agree with driving it around some at all different speeds and loads, then changing the oil after 1,000 miles, but to be real honest with you, I ran the hell out of my 88 from the day I got it and it's still going strong and don't burn any oil or smoke out the exhaust either and that's after over 400 full out blasts down the 1/4 mile too. hell, they're under warranty aren't they, if you got a bad one, why not find it out sooner rather than later when you might have to pay for it instead of the factory.

LOL, yeah you are going to get quite a few opinions on this one. I personally believe you should beat the hell out of a new motor for 250 miles or so, change the oil, and do it once again. I have done this with every new motor and new car I have bought and they have all lasted. I guess it all depends on personal preference more than anything.... My foot seems to get heavy with a new motor / new car, I am not quite sure why, must be genetics, lol.

I've told my wife and son that a new car has to be driven really easy at first. That way, they don't hotrod *my* car. But when I'm alone, I play.
