Default coil or distributor

I have a 1995 GTS with 115,000 miles and minor mods....A few things have happened recently. I will be driving and the car will completely shut-off. It won't start for about another 30 minutes or so and then runs great. The engine rotates but won't start,
I can hear the fuel pump when i prime it so I think it is working o.k. (i put a new aftermarket fuel pump in about 10k miles ago). I thought maybe it was the ignition control module malfunctioning when heating up so I replaced the ICM with a Dynamod ICM 10 days ago. Sometimes the car "misses" or "hickups" (the rpms go to zero for a split second while driving) but it doesn't die.

This happened yesterday, the car didn't shut-off while driving but wouldn't start after sitting for about two hours, engine would rotate but wouldn't start for about 30 minutes, i wound up rolling down a hill and jump starting in first gear, then the car ran fine, got home for about 45 minutes went back out and the same thing happened (engine rotated but wouldn't start). I let the car sit over night and it started perfectly on the first crank this morning. Any advice? Should i replace the coil, replace the distributor or look somehwere else?

Minor Mods:
Cobra intake
pulley's
x-pipe and flow master cat -backs
MAF
355 gears
Suspension

When it doesn't want to start, have you checked to see if you're getting spark?

This is a common problem when the "MAGNETIC PICK UP" inside of the distributor goes bad.

Check to see if you have spark if not try this.

Test the coil and pick up coil by pulling a plug out of the motor and putting it into the coil wire that goes to the distributor and grounding the plug while cranking the motor over and that will tell you if the pick up in the distributor is still telling the coil when to fire.

The part is cheap but requires you to disassemble your distributor and that can be a PITA i suggest a new remanufactured one if you arent familiar with taking one apart.

Try this and let me know what happened?

Will this test work even when it's not happening? What brand do you recommend to buy?

i'd put a stock control module on it and see what happens. i dont know what a Dynamod is right off, but anything aftermarket like that can be kind of iffy

Maybe but if it fires off again then it will be getting spark and give you a false reading.

You need to test when it wont start to make sure.Carry an extra spark plug thats really all you need to find out.

Ordered a re-manned distributor and should put it in tomorrow, can't risk stalling on the road again and i figured for about $120 i should at least try it.....
