Im looking to buy a car and a guy says his car is knocking, i know a few solutions for this but i wanted others input. I havent heard the engine or anything such. So just inputs please as far as you can with just the knowledge it knocks. If you need more information on it ill try to get it to you for more diagnosis

 

I always thought that a knocking engine was a sign to turn and run.

 

When I bought my 97 DOHC it was knocking when I put it in and it tuned out to be a bad cam chain tennsioner.

 

Has the car been running the required 91+ octane?

Also check the timing to see if it has been turned up.

If your going to buy this car its either gonna be a hell of a good deal with a cheap fix or a long string of repairs that will bring you to the price it would cost to get a car that runs normally. GL
