Diffrence between V8 and V6
I'm turning 16 in a year and I began saving for my dream car of a mustang. I already have a decent amount saved and my dad is giving me his jeep which he said I can sell. I was looking at getting a post 2000 GT. I have been informed by my father though that he won't let me get one. So I was wondering, I know that the 8 cylinder is faster than the 6 but is it a significant difference?
Mostly it depends on which body style, but overall....yes, huge difference. Its nearly night and day. If your dad wont let you get a Mustang period, then do not bring up the idea of a V8 at all. I suggest just talking about a V6, pick one out that you'd intend to buy and ask your dad to drive it.
Edit: If your dad is worried about the power, I suggest getting a pre 2000 V6. They had a tad less power than the post 2000 that you'r looking for. Any Mustang is better than no Mustang.

yeah the V8 is a big difference...i have a V6 b/c of insurance and the fact my mom didn't want me having such a fast car...i've driven both though and u can feel the power in the GT.
But you can put like a CAI, exhaust, gears, cams etc... and the V6 will pick up pretty nicely

My dad really has no clue whats going on with power but he just really doesn't want me to get the GT because he knows its an upgrade in speed and he thinks that I don't need it. Really I don't but the 6 cylinder is just such a chick car, but the diffrence between the 90's and 2000 mustangs shouldn't be to big a thing. Also Durr727 how much would all that cost?
I just convinced my dad into letting me get the GT if I can find insurance for it the same price as Geico provides for the non GT. So is their any cheaper insurance then Geico?
EDIT:
Can I get a 99 GT insured for under or about the same as an 03/04 non GT?

I'm getting a fantastic rate for my 04 GT through AAA right now, check with them.
And this is off topic, but Durr, I bought my stang from Plantation Ford... stop and say hi to them for me
I was the crazy kid in a sweater chilling out in the office while I waited for them to finish washing my stang... Had just got off the plane to pick it up LOL No one will remember me, but it's still cool seeing someone from that area on MF.

I got a quote from geico for the 99 GT which came out to be $727 for a 6 month policy. My dad said it was acceptable and I might be able to get something a little nicer since we was expecting to see something in the thousands.
here is what you do , scracth the v8 and get a CONVERTABLE v6. Thats what i would want my 16 year old son to have as a 1st car. If i had 300ft lbs of torque when i was 16 i would DIE
Get the v8.For A First car A mustang Is a great choice. It has A realy good Safty rating(for a sports car)As for the insurance.make sure you put down all the safty stuff on the car(try and find a gt with anti-lock brakes) and all the Anti theft stuff(alarm, window eching, ect). that all saves you money. If you were my son I would have you go out and get a Mach 1 or a cobra but thats just me.
