Default 1989 302 HO plug gap?

I've got a new coil, cap, rotor and plugs to put in, the coil doesn't fit where the stock one was and it looks like I might have to take it to a mechanic, can I go ahead and put the plugs and wires in to save some money? what's the proper gap? does it change depending on the coil? Time to put the white tipped plug back in and wait to hear the best path.

The spark plug gap should be listed on the emissions sticker under the hood. Should be somewhere in the high .040 range for a high energy ignition system.
