Default rim size

Hello I have a 1987 mustang with I think 15" rims (previous owner changed them) and was wondering would the rims from a 2004 svt foucs would fit, the rim specs are 4-lug, 108mm bolt circle, 5.94'backspacing ,17' x 7' wide.

I think that much backspacing is too much on an 87.

thanks for the reply, how much of a spaceing should a rim have to fit. Would wheel spacers work to fill in some space or is that not recomended.

i think the offset on those focus wheels is too high.... a rim without some depth would look tacky imho (like some of these 17" rims ppl put on their 99+ with the rear wheels way inside...)

the backspacing required depends on the tire/wheel combination you want to run. one way to check is to remove the wheel then use a straight edge across the face of the brake drum and measure from inside of the straight edge back to the edge of the wheelwell. then subtract 1"-1-1/2" from this measurement to allow for the bulge of the tire on the wheel and to allow for tire clearance. the resulting number is the backspacing allowable. you also need to check the bolt circle of the wheel studs with the bolt circle of the wheel to make sure they are the same. with a 4 bolt system, just measure the center distance between any two bolts on the corners across from each other. the other most simple way is to have the wheel/tire you want to run and try to install it and see how it fits making sure to allow some space for tire deflection in turns before you decide that it fits OK. you can also check with a local high performance tire dealer as they can tell you what wheels and tires will work on many popular cars. I don't recommend the use of wheel spacers as they are only a band-aid used to make a wheel fit that was not properly sized right in the first place and they put additional stress on the wheel studs in the axle.
