i got an intake for my 86 with no maf for a really good price. but the prob is that it has no heat shield so it just sucks up all the air right off the motor. is this still givinh me power or do i need to make a heat shield. I could make one but i dont want to waste the time if i dont have to.

 

Hotter air is less dense than cool air. Meaning as the air gets hotter you will be getting less into the engine, as in less power. Im sure you've noticed that the car pulls harder on cooler days havent you? Same principle. I don't really see how a heat shield alone is gonna help you much though, as you're still bonna be sucking in air from under the hood.

 

you need to find a way to get that puppy in the fenderwell.
