Default 289 efi?

I know this may sound stupid coming from someone who grew up with mustangs, but I have no idea on this one. I have a 64 289 block. I was planning to use it in my 86gt. Everything looks like it will blot up just fine, but I have been told I cannot use it in a 86-93 car because I cannot use a roller cam. Is this true? If so, what is keeping me from using that block? Thanks in advance as always for any input.

Anything is possible, Its just alot of custom tuning things, I remember when I was told 93 5.0L 302 V8 Lx coupe, Wouldnt work with 79 mustang coupe , Alot of people were sure wrong, I got it to work, Just a little tweaking got things all together, Plus it helped out I had all the parts I need from the 93 302 Lx

You don't "have" to use a roller cam in the 289 block, but if you want to you can get a roller cam conversion kit - then you can use the 5.0 roller cams. Everything from the 302 will bolt directly to the 289.
