Default air conditioning nubby

ok.. so my air conditioning blows strong but does not get cold at all.. how many possible things could it be or what could it be that i need to replace/refill/repair and what would it cost.. my dad said something about a freeon (sp?) thing.. i kno its like something they dont really use anymore because its bad for the ozone and they used to be used in air conditioners.. but is that my problem.. and by the way its a 93 lx and where would this be located if that is the problem,

It could be low refrigerant (r-134 is what a '93 should use), compressor (which I doubt since you said nothing bout weird noises when it was switched on), or bad pressure switch. The r-134 is bout 5-7 dollars a can, and you will need a pressure gauge to see if your system is full or not. Compressors are bout 150-200 dollars new. I'm not sure how much a new switch would cost though.

sounds like you need to recharge your A/C. Go to your local parts store and tell them what kinda car you have and that you need to recharge your A/C and they should be able to help you out.

Please refer to another thread simular issue to yours RE:A/c not working.Take it somewhere to be checked out.Your system is R12.(bad for the Ozone Layer).Companies were instaling 134A in cars starting in1994.You will have to get your car retrofitted to 134A because R12 has been practically outlawed and will cost much more to replace ...than to retrofit and fill your repaired system with 134A.

.R12 is not manufactured anymore and what is left is dearly expensive. It only costs about $100 bucks for a recharge of 134A and the retrofit.Chances are your system is out of freon due to a faulty component like a condensor(they tend to go first due to their location in front of the rad).Manufacturers make them lighter these days to save overall weight of the car(everything in cars has become lighter to increase fuel mileage.).I am sure this is not the first time your HVAC system has failed since 1993,so it may already been retrofitted to 134A.Ther should be a tag under your hood to verify this.

Screw a conversion use a r-12 substitute called Freeze 12. Works just as well as the old 12 and costs ALOT less. No conversion needed either.
