Default Need some input on this....

i am pretty sure i know what the problem is..but id just like to know what most of you think..

my dad has a 98 lincoln navigator...he told me to go diagnose the problem..and after driving the car around the block..i come to the conclusion its the engine mounts..

1)when i shift the car to reverse and drive...i hear "crackling" nosies from the driveshaft and than the car shakes as it shifts..

2)when driving it..it feels like the engine is shaking or that the engine is stuttering and generally feels very unhealthy. also i gave the car a nice rev up to 4000 rpm to make sure theres no inner engine damage..and it sounds fine. the check engine light is also on.

i am also sure its the engine mounts..but can u guys share ur thoughts?

its not old at all...its only got about 80,000 on it.

i am alittle worried its the tranny because when shifting i hear alot of noise and movement from the driveline, but isnt that also a sign of bad motor mounts?

Might be u-joints. That's where I would look first. Not familiar with a Nav. Does it have a carrier bearing on the drive-shaft? That would also be a place to check.

i just drove it around for the second time to get a feel for it this time..i dont think it has anything to do with the drivetrain..heres way...

when i am waitin on a red light..i notice the car have idel trouble..it goes down and goes up, and the engine shakes the whole car....and as i start driving the engine hasistates and sputters... when i accelerated hard..the check engine light started to blink on and off....

could it be turn up related? spark plugs? d.rotors?

Ford truck autos don't last long....that is one reason why I sold my 95 F350. It sounds like a tranny issue

i dont think it has anything to do with the tranny anymore after driving it around again.....

when i am waiting on a red light..the idle of the car isnt stable..it goes up and down, also there is shaking from the engine.... when i hit the gas the engine statters for a little bit than stops..but the shaking still happens sometimes while driving...

the check engine light is on..and when i went wide open throttle it started blinking and i notice it wouldnt go higher than 3500 rpm and felt like i wasnt getting full power...

my intial thought seems off..it doesnt seem like the motor mounts..i think it has something to do with the fuel or spark plugs..or somethin engine related

throttle position sensor (tps)

check that. if its really off it could make your shifts hard.

btw tps controls fuel/spark to your engine.

if spark plugs have been changed within 50,000 miles, they're okay, if the fuel filter has been changed within 30,000, it shouldbe okay.
