Default short or long headers?

hey guys, i want to get headers but don't know which are good. i was thinking ford racing headers (i think they are short), or long tubes, but don't want to deal with the grinding on speed bumps. do you guys know how much HP gain i'll get from the ford racing?

Nope... No grind what so ever. I just got mine lowered 1 1/2" and I have yet to scrape on a speed bump. Here is a pic, you can see how high they are off the ground.

hey jdaniel, you said you lowered your car 1.5 all around or is it less in the rear? let me know if you need casters. my main concern on lowering is the inside tire wear. when i had my ricer, that was a big problem.

20+ for long tubes?! Whoa! What happens to the midpipe? I was planning on getting a Mac Prochamber soon followed by headers a month or two later. I'm guessing the short headers will bolt right onto the mid-pipe. But what about the long headers?

Longtubes need a different, shorter, midpipe. And yea 20+ hp for longtubes. And nomo was being generous with a 5hp gain for shorties. If you plan on longtubes you best wait till you can buy both at the same time.

What happens to the cats? I want to keep the cats, or go with high flow ones.

the cats are welded into your midpipe, so whether or not and what type of cats you have depends on the midpipe you go with

Ive got a 96 3.8 and was lookin to put some headers on it as it desperately needs more hp. Ive heard that the long tube headers should only be added to cars with a cat back system and was told shorties would be a better choice. I already have a dual flowmaster system set up on the car so would the long tubes work or not?
