Yes you can do it. And it can be helpful at times when you want to control your shift points. I don't see a reason to come off the gas when you do it though. I just put 3.73 hears and a shift kit in my 95 GT and it makes a world of difference.

Matter of fact, I just purchased this right here:
(Edit: when I say I "just purchased it", I mean like 15 minutes ago, LoL)

It's purpose is to allow you to shift 1 - 2 - 3 in an AOD / AODE transmission. It's ratchet style, meaning you don thave to worry about accidentally skipping over a gear like you do with the stock shifter. You just slam it forward and it steps up one gear then recenters itself. The next time you slam it forward, it shifts up one more gear.

You can shifyt an automatic manuallly if you want and often will get better times due to firmer shifts but try shiftiing a little befoire you actually want it to shift as it may take a couple hundred rpm's to react. Not sure about the letting off of the throttle thing, what you mean. mark

Why let off the throttle to shift? Just shift it manually with the throttle to the floor and keep gonig! Mark

do this and you should cut the 1-2 shift loose, or atleast my 6er does

and no it wont, not sure on the aod but i know the 4R70 has a 1 and 2 manual valve body straight from ford

Shifting your trans like that should be fine, and theres no need to let off the gas before you shift.

What you want to be careful about is downshifting an auto, especially when you're not on the gas. If you downshift into a gear too low or arent on the gas when you shift it is very hard on the trans. I destroyed a chevy turbo 350 doing that

I just finished about 15 minutes ago. Personally, I think it looks nice. It's too dark outside to take pics now though. I will get some good daylight pics of it tomorrow and post it up ASAP.

Actually, the pics didn't come out too bad with a flash. I thought maybe it woudl reflect too much. Here are three quick pics of it installed:

hey that looks great, was it hard??? Is that the reverse lock button i see there on the right....

Oh ya one more thing, how much was it?

samseed101 08-16-2006 11:33 AM

RE: is it bad for ur AOD tranny?

The reverse lock is actually under the top of the shifter. You pull it up with your fingers at the same time you're moving the shifter. That red button is the OD switch.

It is actualyl not too bad to install. Took me 4 hours instead of the planned 2 hours because I wasn't quite prepared. First I couldn't find my ramps. The car has to be off the ground so you can get under it to disconnect cables. They recommend a 2-foot clearance but i had to settle for a 1-foot ramp, LoL.

It's fairly straight forward though. Basicalyl unbolt the old, bolt in the new. The wiring is fairly simple too. Just splice the wires in for the OD. The wires for the LED can be a pain in teh ass though. they give you a real short wire but you have to run the hot wire to a source. So I had to go out and get mroe wire for that.

But otherwise it was fairly easy, and I love the way it works!

sounds good but i don't know if i would like having the od button, over there like that....

ok so now tell us how you like it, does it make a big difference in driving and shifting?
