Default oil pan?

so if i bought a 6 qt oil pan, would i put six quarts of oil in?

do you know that the oil filter holds oil as well? a 6 quart pan would probably make the overall capacity of the system about 6.5 quarts. But then again I don't know if you have oil coolers, etc etc.

My 8 qt oil pan needed 8 quarts including the primary filter...so the instructions said. Ten quarts total with my extra goodies...
