Default Driveshaft

The balancer part on the slip yoke of the driveshaft spun off. I talked to a machine shop that does drive shafts and they would balance the drive shaft for me. My questions is does that balncing ring on the driveshaft remove harmonics and will it hurt the car or trans if it is not there?
Thanks

No it wont hurt anything so long as your driveshaft is balanced. Really though, wouldn't this be a good time to upgrade to an aluminum driveshaft?

I would like to buy an aluminium driveshaft. However, I just spent a ton of money on the car. Installed a new reman engine and had to replace the trans. I bought the car for my son and he did not take care of it. In 1 month time period he blew the motor and distroyed the trans. (trans was locked between reverse and another gear) When he destroyed the trans the balance ring came off of the driveshaft. I just want the car to run for now and I will upgrade a little later when I have money again.

It will cost me $40 to balance the drive shaft. I called a junk yard and they wanted $70 for a used one. I am willing to pay a littl money if you could please give me a link and price for an aluminium drive shaft. I was wanting to replace the ujoints and slip yoke anyway. Any info you can give will be greatly appreciated.
The son nolonger will be driving this car or any other of my cars. After he blew the engine I told him that if he didn't take better care of the car I would sell it. He purposely destroyed the trans so I would not be able to sell the car. Was going about 30 mph and then threw it in reverse popped the clutch realy made a mess of the car and not to mention the engine does not even have 2000 miles on it yet. After he done that he just left the car set where it was and never bothered to tell me. I heard about it going to be towed on the scanner.
Sorry to vent but I am a little upset.
Thanks Again,
Forrest

my balancing ring came off at about 100mph,,it sounded like someone shot the bottom of the car with a shotgun,,,actually put a small hole in the floor. an to be honest mine has less vibration after it came off,,but it probably had a crack in it and that off balanced things as it spun up to speed and the crack would widen,

but all i am saying is you don't really need it i work at ford doing driveline work and the 94 95s have the same shaft but not the balancer ring.

Cool, I did drive the car a short distance as I did not want to hurt it if it were to unbalanced and the trans did not shake at all (that I noticed anyway) I did take it up to about 65 mph. If I really don't have to spend the money I would rather not.
If I am understanding correctly The drive shaft should be balanced and not to worry about the balance ring therfore no need to spend the $40 at the machine shop.
Thanks, Forrest

It's free shipping. They just charge you a 8.95$ "handling fee".
