Default TIMING

Ok, I am new to the forum here, I am having alot of problems with my timing. There is no timing marker anywhere, I tried the putting it on # 1 and all that but it doesnt seem to act right. It kinda spits and sputters when I give it alot of gas, it has a carb. Any ideas of how to time this thing?

Heh, heh..... Sorry, but you really gave little info as to the problem.... I'll take a stab at it....

1) You do have timing marks; they are either painted over or the rust makes it impossible to see 'im. Obviously, it's high time to crawl under there with some wd40, a scotchbrite pad, & do some scrubbing to find those hidden timing marks.....
2) Use a paint pen to mark "0" & make a slightly smaller mark at 10BTDC.
3) Make sure there is a timing pointer installed..... Sometimes they simply dissapear from one owner to the next....
4) Give it another shot & post back you're results.....

The timing marker can be kinda hard to see, but it's on the passenger side. If there isn't one there, you'll need to buy one. Double check the wires to make sure they're in the right order and you have number one in the right spot and not 180 out. You can also move the dizzy slightly and see if it run better. If it'll idle, you aren't too far out.
