Default Supercharger vs. Turbo?

Im not the smartest when it comes to fixing up cars...YET. I am currently looking at a 95 cobra SVT w/ 347 stroker kit and a 91 5.0 GT w/ 306 and a vortech supercharger.

I was just curious as to what the difference is between a supercharger and a turbo. Im sure there is a HUGE difference, but im a newbie to this. Do superchargers spool just like a turbo? Are they noticeable when driving?

Thanks for answers ahead of time, they are very appreciated.

super charges are very noticable if they are boostin alot but if its only boostin like 6psi youll feel it but will not be inpressed, the 306 is bored .030 over you know that right. the two cars should feel really similar to eachother in power.

well I got a superpac pro supercharger on my 83 stang 3.8, I notice the power increase with the gas peddle pinned, Ive raced a few T birds with turbo's no chance for em taking me, cause it take on the avg 1800 to 2500 rpm for the turbo to kick in, with a super charger it all instead, And plus turbos dont last to long they crap out from the exhaust heat. I would go supercharger, they are pricey, But well worth the cash.

A turbo works off of the exhuast, a super charger is drivin off the engine crank, turbos are more efficent but more complicated to install and can have "lag" if the turbo is very large or not set up properlly, a supercharger will be easyier to put on, but pound for pound you will see more gain with a turbo all being equal. As for turbos not lasting long as was said in a post above, that is complete and utter BS, they use turbos on almost every 18 wheeler and those go for over a million miles (literally) and diesels have exhuast gas temps. in excess of 1200 degrees.

the only thing better then CID is boost.just driving around you wont know the blower is there.a sudden rush of the pedal and boost will show it self put it to the floor and aim.cuz it is gone to go.the supercharger will build boost and the faster the motor spins the more it will build.(nonroots type)(there are rpm limits for blowers and motor) kits are made to be near full boost by 6000 rpm for the best part of the street kits.A well tuned turbo can see full boost by 2500 to 3500 RPM bigger turbos may have more lag and come on later in the power band , boost makes power soooo the sooner you get to full boost the more power comes on sooner also.turbos cared for will last for many miles so will the supercharger.the charger belt pulls hard on the crank and will and dont let any one tell you diff. and wears the front main bearing sooner.this is just a short explanation and there is much more to it.Both turbo and supercharger motors can be hard to tune and can hurt the motor and do it fast. if you get luck just a head gasket will blow.then there are the roots type blower but the is another store. But there is not much better then a well tuned boosted motor supercharged or turbo.it is a great ride

Na mdvaldosta I dont have too much mis-information , I just see how JD1969 tries to be a smart *** on things, I do have logic to my opinions, For example JD1969 is saying in his past statement

turbos on almost every 18 wheeler and those go for over a million miles (literally) and diesels have exhuast gas temps. in excess of 1200 degrees.
At my work we got over 45 semi's they were all brand new 3 years ago, half of them the turbo's are shot, The engines only have about half million miles on them, All I say due to heat / weight / friction = Stress. And a No brainer stress causes parts to fail. Like I say their is nothing wrong with some one having their opinion.

the turbos are failing because they don't have the temp devise on it as it cuts back psi where heat is an issue

Thats right I am a smartass, I guess your post about N2O was right on the money as well? As far as turbos go, only half million miles well I geuss they wore out too soon. If taken care of a turbo will last many many miles. Case in point the F350 we tow with has 120k on it, and it is still on its original turbo, must have been a fluke though.
