10 sec car
Hello
I recently bought a 69 fb, it turns out that its not the original motor or transmission thats in it, it has changed colour and the interior has been upgraded to a deluxe model, however thats not the interior thats on the VIN.
So seeing that I cant very well restore it to "original" I have decided to make it into a 10 sec 1/4 mile street car.
Now....this is my first "muschle" car so I was wondering how much rwhp I need (in theory) to be able to run 10 sec laps, I will deal with traction/suspension/transmission second.
So
Question nr:
1. minimum amount of rwhp
2. transmission, is there a transmission that "everyone" uses or agrees upon is the best
3. how much hp does my 4 speed manual tranny take (C4 I belive), and how much abuse/hp can my 9" rear end take.
Basically the idea is to set it on a some stands and rip it to bits, I have some cash set away for this project and then just throw money at it over time to make it into a 10 sec car, Id really like to know what rwhp is needed so I dont get a engine solution that will be to weak, but Id allso like to be able to drive it on the street.
Any help here is good as Im just into my first mustang
Erik

RE: 10 sec car
I am just going to assume that you want a realible package. A 10 second car will run you about $20-30,000 after all is said and done. This is assuming you can alot of the work yourself and don't have to pay a shop to do it. Realisticly your better off getting the car together and slowly working up to your perforance goal, you don't just hop into a 10 second car.

RE: 10 sec car
and throw out everything you saw in "fast and furious"
but engine...you could always go 572 ci full forged set up with a giant blower on it, i'm quite sure that will produce more than enough power to run 10's you would just need suspension transmission and slicks to put it to the ground

RE: 10 sec car
Hello
Thx for the replays.
I found a "calculator" what did weight/hp=time
And the outcome of it was I needed about 600 flywheel hp to run 10 sec laps, again this is a theoretical model.
I run a 96 Ford Cosworth Escort with 400+ hp for fun atm so Im not brand new to street racing, Im just a new Mustang owner.
The 69 FB project is expected to take a couple of years to finish, then 1 more year to fix all the stuff I did wrong until Im satified.
But if the basic`s isnt right it will never be good enough.
So Im looking for the "right" engine, I have found the tremec 500/600 that should hold against the hp involved, centerforce clutch, limited slip difs.
Im currently looking into a IRS cobra swap kit or a new suspension package for the 9" rear end that son the car
I havent desided if I want a smaller supercharge engine or a 500+ci motor for my 600+ hp engine
Best of luck gentlemen

RE: 10 sec car
Keep the 9 inch, a Cobra IRS will not hold up well to drag racing. I would look at crate engines if I were you. I get the feeling that you are across the pond, a crate engine is a particularly good choice for you as they are a proven combination .
