Default Getting 4.10s, some questions

I've finally saved up what i hope is enough money to get the gears and get them installed. I have a 94 GT and was wondering if anyone could link me to a spot to order the gears. Are there any specific packages i should look for?? The car has some mileage on it, im not sure if that needs to be taken into consideration. Im expecting somewhere between 200 and 300 for just the install?? is that about right? Thanks.

There are many places to purchase your gears...too many to even list. But a decent place to get some would be summitracing.com. Here's a link to summit racing's gears for your Mustang. When you get the gears, don't forget to purchase an installation kit as well. You will definately need it.

$200 - $300 is right on the money. I've seen shops around here do it for slightly less, others for slightly more. But that is a good ballpark figure. I paid $210 for the install.

Thanks, but that link brings up another question i forgot to ask...there are ford racing gears for 210 and summit gears for 70 dollars less....ive heard people say to just stick with ford racing, but could there really be that much of a difference in quality to spend the extra 70?? Just wondering. Maybe there is a good reason for me to get the ford gears but if not, i dont see the point in spending the extra cash.

I can't speak for other brands because I never used them. I have Ford Racing 3.73s in mine and I love them...never had a problem. But I got mine on eBay so they were cheaper.

Hmmmm does anyone else have any ideas as to whether it would be a bad idea to get the summit brand gears instead of Ford Racing...i mean if there is a difference in quality then im all for spending the extra money, but if not, then thats 70 dollars towards my short shifter Just wondering what you all thought. Thanks.

The Ford racing gears will probably NOT need shimming. thus there is less of a chance that the gears will "whine" & u have to have them shimmed.

$200-#300 isnt a bad price @ all. I just had mine done last week. The labor book says 4.5 hours. The oil for the pumpkin is about $80.00 alone for 4 quarts from Ford dealer. Make sure you have it done by a pro that will shim the gears if they whine on ya. Dont forget the frictin modifier or you will be doing the 1 wheel spin.

You didnt say if you have an auto or man tranni. Get the 3:73's if its a manual or 4:10 if its an auto. You put 4:10's in the 5 speed & you will be sorry as 1st gear will be practically useless on your street car.

the bearing kit = the install kit. Price is okay, but you could probably find better. Don't be afraid to try eBay
