Carb'd Conversion
What's up fellow mustang enthusiast's.. I'm new here so I'm just going to jump in.. I just finished an EFI to carb conversion on my 93 LX. Things are working out quite well besides the long list of problems I've had with the crate motor. (cam, lifters, push rods and rockers, leaky rear main) I learned my lesson about getting a "deal" on a motor. I'm not going to slag the guy who put it together because he's been good about making it right. Belive me, if he doesn't come through you all will know who he is. Anyways... the question I pose today is... The car runs out of gas at 1/4 tank!! I took out the stock pump and replaced with a pick and mounted a mallory outside the tank. The fuel line is #8 up to the regulator and #6 back as a return. Any ideas?

RE: Carb'd Conversion
Hrmmm... are you sure the gauge is accurate, - is the sending unit in the tank your using calibrated for your gas gauge? Or do you actually have a 1/4 tank of gas in the tank and the fuel isnt getting pumped out?

RE: Carb'd Conversion
Are you saying the car runs out of gas at 1/4 tank just sitting still? or when you are at 1/4 and floor it the car runs out of gas? If it is the latter of the two you need a sumped tank, under heavy acceleration all the fuel sloshes to the back of the tank uncovering the pick-up.

RE: Carb'd Conversion
Well.... the gauge was correct before the swap. It's the same tank and same stock gauge from b4. I think there's still gas in the tank when it runs out because it doesn't take a full fill up to top it off.. Could the pick-up not go deep enough into the tank? I ordered the one from Jeg's. Can't remeber the brand. I think they only offer two anyways.

JD - It runs out sitting still.

RE: Carb'd Conversion
i'm willing to bet its the pickup tube, mine runs out a little early but i didnt buy one. i just fabricated one and its a little to short to pick up t he fuel.did you plug up the lines where your in-tank pump was? need to if you didnt

RE: Carb'd Conversion
Wndsor - Not exactly sure what your saying as far as plugging up the old lines. The old fuel line is still in the car but disconnected at both ends. Braided runs up and back...

RE: Carb'd Conversion
The other guys are right, sounds like the pick up tube.

RE: Carb'd Conversion
It's too short?

RE: Carb'd Conversion
well i was talking about the return line on the sender in the tank, he line that is on the sender inside of the fuel tank, but never mind, your running a return line
