I noticed that since yesterday my red battery symbol comes on for just a second on the dash.
Today I caught it as I pulled away from a light. the amp meter needle may have just dipped slightly at the same time.

the car has under drive pulleys but I have never had any problems with charging etc.

Is my alternator going on me ?

Sounds liek the alternator to me. I would take it to an Autozone where they can test your battery and your alternator to give you the exact diagonosis.

 

Get a meter and see if the voltage is good. With the engine running you should have over 14 volts on the meter.

It did the same thing a bunch of times today on the way to work at various speeds. The meter on the dash gets lower at the same time. I don't know if it is a volt meter or an amp meter.

I cleaned the battery terminals again just in case.

I have to see Mr Auto stone to read my suposedly gas cap generated code anyway - it keeps coming back

I'll have them check the charging system

 

Were you redlining when you saw the light flicker? Could just be the brushes on the Alternator or worn out. As time goes on it will get worse.

 

Na....it seems to come on off randomly.
