Why a '96? [&:]

Cheapest price. It would help keep him under the 20k limit he said.

I got my 98 for 18K with only 17,000 miles and eibach springs, 4:10s, auburn posi, shifter, and CAI so you could get one with that style and have $ to mod with but 01s have 15 more hp stock and IRS

Yeah try to find a '96-'98 Cobra for between $10k-$12k. I see them all the time, and I live in one of the most expensive places to buy a car. Use the rest of your money for mods. You could buy a complete Saleen racecraft suspension kit for $2k, a blower for $3k, a complete exhaust with long tube headers for about $1k, and a bunch of under the hood bolt ons like an air intake and MAF, throttlebody and plenum, pullies, gears out back, and **** like that and still be under your $20k ceiling. Plus you'd be walking all over just about every damn car on the road. I'd take that over a $20k '99 Cobra anyday.

You could also do as USAMuscle said and get the 96-98 for 10 or 12,000 and add a twin turbo to it.
