Default Gear Install Invoice.... Whatcha think?

I went to Springfield motorsports today: manager has freaking SWEET white 99+ GT and there were cobras all over the place and one strapped to the dyno.

Anyways, here's the estimate I got, let me know whatcha think of everything plz.

Gears: $200 (they said something about adding 10% to something if I supplied my own)
Friction modifier: $4
Speedo gear $15
Rear Pinion Race: $13.50
Rear Pinion bearing: $28
Front Pinion Race: $10
Front Pinion bearing: $20
Dif. Gasket: $10
80w-90 gear lube: $8
Pinion Seal: $22
Shop Supplies: $20
HAZMAT: $10
Labor: $350
Total w/ tax comes to: 715.01 on the estimate. Does everything look ok except the gear price?

Thanks, I just got a check for $400, so I think I'm taking the plunge.

doubleyouteeeff mate? i thought the speedo could be fixed by a chip, not a gear. why would you need a new diff gasket unless the current one is leaking? i think theyre somewhat trying to work you over on some unnecesary stuff. i know gear lube can be gotten for less than that also

Well Acer2428, That sounds like a sweet deal for a rebuild rear end, I just got mine done a few weeks ago, for $500 cash, still thats a good deal I would go for it.

I'd shop around.

Never jump at the 1st place. Shop around, and if no one compares, then go back.
It does seem as though they try to charge for any and everything. $10 for HAZMAT?!?!?! $20 for "shop supplies"?!?!? That stuff should be included in with "labor"!!!!!

Also, wouldn't surprise me if they got the rearend stuff as a kit, yet they're charging you for each and every different part seperately. They must be really good at what they do, but they sure seem to be charging top dollar as well.

well basically they are giving Acer2428 a price break down quote for what parts or kits are going to cost, Some cases most things on a rearend dont need to be replaced unless you tell them to put brand new parts into the rearend, The locker and ring and pinion are about the most expensive parts, Bearing kit and seals are cheap. But their is nothing wrong with shopping around, I preffer a place that speciality in rear ends and trannys, Most back yard mechanic's have some ideas, Not all dont.

Good Luck Acer2428.

I think that not too bad a price for a dealership to charge. Gears are only $11 more than Summit Racing and the bearings look about right too. I never have liked that shop supplies catchall either, but the $10 Hazmat charge is for disposal of the old rear end lube which is a thing you can thank all the tree huggers out there for! LOL
I would say go for it and good luck!

I wouldn't let them do it for that..they have a big ego problem there and they price things wayover as some people don't care what it costs....let me ask you a qustion is being .2-.3 faster worth 750?..no way hell nitrous can be had for 600 and make you atleast a sec faster and is on-demand use only as having it off you keep good gas milege and so on...you could get it done at the dealership for less...also the 30 bs fees are just crazy.....if you car has under 75k I would replace any bearings except for the pinion bearings inwhich you can get it a NAPA for around 20.00 and it's made by dana....250 install in more like it..don't be in a hurry
