Heavy clutch. Pressure plate?

Heavy clutch. Pressure plate?
I recently bought a 92 GT. A previous owner had wanted to build it to race it, but never finished the project. The clutch is very very heavy but works great. It is by far the heaviest clutch I've ever used. The guy told me he put in a King Cobra clutch with a Centerforce pressure plate (or vice versa, I don't remember right now), and that is why it is so heavy. He said if I wanted to lighten it up I should replace the clutch or pressure plate with the same brand as the other. He wanted a heavy clutch, so he did that on purpose. He seemed to know what he was talking about. Does this make sense? Or is the linkage maybe wrong? Has anybody heard of particular pressure plate and clutch combinations that act this way? I don't mind it. In fact I kind of like it, but my wife can't drive it, and she may need to someday. By the way, it has a Tremec 3550 tranny and otherwise is mostly stock.
