Default What are Fuel Lines

What are all the fuel lines from the tank for other than the line that goes to the filter? I recently had an exaust leak that heated up some of the fuel lines and caused them to collapse so I'm having to replace them. They are really thin plastic lines and theres not any fuel in them so I was just wondering what they do? One of them goes to the engine and the other two go to some kind of canister or somthing on each side of the tank.

That canister has to do with releasing the fuel vapors that build up in your tank. I believe it's basically a canister (might be filled with charcoal) that absorbs the fuel vapors in the tank, and every so often it burns the excess fuel that has condensed in the canister via the throttle body. It was put there for emissions reasons so gas vapors no longer vented into the air unburned, and it also prevents the infamous gas smell.
