Default jb weld on exhaust?

will this melt and cause a huge fire or can it withstand the heat of holding two pipes together? there's a cracked weld on my downpipe and i was wondering if it would be better to just let the bitch leak and be loud and obnoxious or if that would actually hold it together.

I would try it, is will withstand the heat for certain - as long as its just filling in a crack and not holding something together.

well it's kinda holding it together...it's the pipe that goes from the wastegate to the downpipe. the wastegate flange will hold it in place and it would just be sealing it to the downpipe. im gonna go ahead and try after i get it bolted down. my main concern was heat. thanks joe

J-B Weld is a miracle. But it will eventually break down and fall apart due to the heat and pressure of an exhaust system.Vibration is also a factor. What caused the thing to crack in the first place? It will last a lot longer farther down the pipe, but that close to a turbocharger it will only last a short time.I would have it welded soon.

eh, ya win some, ya lose some. i got it on as much of the crack as i could and i'm gonna leave it till it doesnt work anymore. its a copper pipe going into the downpipe, so i dont think welding is gonna work. i think if i do anything, i'll patch the hole in the downpipe and just make a dump tube from the wastegate.

Copper has no strenth under high heat conditions. It melts at about 1000*f.Is the pipe really copper or just plated?Use a file to find out.If it is copper, and you can do without the car for awhile(about 1 week?)get a steel pipe. There is a company ,Tubular Technology or Techniques (I can't find the invoice) in Columbus Oh,that does a fine job of fabbing exhaust pipes from a pattern that you send them. They are not cheap but they are accurate.I have used them in the past and thier product is an EXACT copy of what you send them.If you can't find them try The Big Bike Shop #Columbus area code ?464-0104 on West Broad St,or the Easy Riders bike shop,on Broad St.I don't know if they are still open but from the quality of their work they should be.I hope this helps.Happy Motoring.

It will melt. I just JB welded the exhaust on my go cart. It didn't hold for more than 5 minutes. Then is turned to liquid and ran off. Then I just quit being lazy and Mig welded the *****.

Yeah, the stuff NOS is talking about works okay. I've never had a lot of luck with it. Never seem to be able to make it stay "put". Doesn't seem to have the "hold" of JB.
