Taxes
Hi,
I'm new in California/USA and I have no idea what kind of taxes I have to pay when buying a car. Lets say I end up with a price of 29.000$ for a vehicle on the Ford website, how much taxes do I have to put on top of it? What is the final price after taxes?
Thanks

RE: Taxes
Tax is 7.5% - 7.75% in CA. I don't remember about CA but in AZ if you have a trade-in, then the TAX is AFTER the TRADE-IN. If you have a DOWN PAYMENT then the TAX is BEFORE the DOWNPAYMENT.
Don't forget liscense and docuemnt fees. Which can add another $600-900

RE: Taxes
In Texas it is a 6.25% tax. That is after the trade in is deducted. Prior to October 1st you paid the tax on the sales price of a used car. After October 1st you pay tax on the presumptive value of the vehicle as determined by the state.
For example, I buy a used fox body for $2000 and I pay $125 in taxes (not including fees). After October 1st if I buy a used fox body for $2000 and the state decides that the standard presumptive value is $2900 I have to pay $181.25 in taxes. You can get a form and have the vehicle appraised by a licensed person to argue the value of the vehicle. Any insurance adjuster can do this for you so start making nice with your local adjusters.
