long block just comes with more stuff from the factory, it's not physically longer. short block is just the block, long block comes with heads and stuff.

I thought it was something along those lines. After looking at ads for motors I figured out that there isn't any difference in size, but then I couldn't figure out what the difference is. [sm=thanx.gif]

I done know anything but I think it just the heads and the stuff that goes with the heads. But no intake or oil pan or waterpump or flywheel.

short block=block, crank, rods, pistons, and bearings. Long block= all the above + heads and cam, somtimes an intake. A crate motor is complete ready to run, somtimes it has no carb.

not every engine shop uses the same definition of a long block, so it's best to ask exactly what comes with it besides the short block and heads to make damn sure you know what you're getting and what you have to go out and buy yourself to finish it off into a full functional engine.

Here's some more trivia for you!
What is a "Rat" motor?
What is a "Mouse" motor?
What is an "Elephant" motor?

Times up! the Rat motor is a big block Chevy, the Mouse is a small block Chevy and the Elephant is a Chrysler Hemi!
Now don't you feel lots smarter? hahaha
